Huh? Connectivism? cck12

To me connetivism is what happens within a network agmost each node of that network.  We all belong to a social network whether it be friends, family, work colleuges etc., inwhich we learn from.  Connectivism is the content we stream our learning from.  Each node within our network holds valueable content obtained from other nodes in an uncontrolable frenzy of information.  Individuals can then choose what information valueable to retain and then pass on their understandings and opinions on to others.  The process is cyndical by which information is constantly being fed to its' members.  Connectivism depends on the participation of its' information sources.

  1. Right!
Networking is the natural state of being for herd animals like human beings. We have had a lot of this activity subjugated by imposed lines of thinking that we have been educated into and by an over emphasis on the 'Self' concept.
'Connectivism' is a style of self-directed and self-controlled education process that employs and encourages us to employ our natural means of social interaction to maximise our knowledge potential according to whatever limits we place on ourselves, rather than by some self-appointed 'authority' standing in front of a blackboard, espousing preferred versions of history, false mathematical concepts, scientific theory already proven wrong by discoveries in Physics since the 50's and any number of other abominations.

    1. Why do you think that 'authority' standing in front of a blackboard gives us false mathematical concepts and network doesn't?

    2. I think a network would have more potential to be flawed in its information. What is that old saying'Too many hands spoil the broth", But it also has the potential to be a very strong and valuable learning environment depending upon the participants' experience and knowledge. Which also rings true with the authority standing at a blackboard teaching from a curriculum layed out by some stuffy commitee. If the information within the curriculm is false then there is no potential for success whereas in a network; critical analyzes is an on going exercise.

  2. Well said. I would have to assume that you support connectivism as a learning theory and as an insight into the future of education ?
